Donald W. Thom of Chisago City, age 82, died on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at Parmly LifePointes after an 8 year battle with Alzheimers. He was a WWII Navy Veteran, secondary school teacher and coach for 30 years beginning in Taylors Falls, Anoka and Mpls schools. Owned and operated Thom’s Resort on Roosevelt Lake, Emily, MN for more than 40 years, an endeavor begun by his parents in 1935. He was preceded in death by his parents, William A. and Hilma S. Thom, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Kay; sons, Scott (Sheila) and James (Nancy) and 4 grandchildren, Zachary, Garrett, Rebekah and Maxwell. Also brother, William A. Thom, Jr. (Inez) and brother-in-law David W. Dickinson (Marti) and other special relatives and friends. Visitation 3-7 PM Sunday, June 29th at Roberts Family Funeral Home, 555 Centennial Dr. SW, Forest Lake. Funeral 11 AM Monday, June 30th at Zion Lutheran Church, 28005 Old Towne Road, Chisago City with visitation one hour before service. Interment Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Doug, age 51, died peacefully at home on June 17, 2008, surrounded by his family. Survived by wife, Carole Anne Howe; stepsons, Joshua (Betsy Ralston) and Zachary Howe; parents, James and Joan Ribbeck, Rock Island Il; brother, Thomas (Cindy) and their children Mila and Mark, Moline Il; sister, Karen (Paul) Neder and son Cole, Rock Island, IL; sisters-in-law Sharon Palas and children, Mark (Janet), Lisa (Graham) Graham, Kara (David) Mundale and Diane (Ken) Hiscoe, Port St. Lucie, FL and children, Paula (Jon) Tisch and Kristin (Steve) Husom; brothers-in-law Stephen (Hermene) Barthold, and David Barthold. Also survived by great nieces and nephews, Grant Palas, Twig Graham, Peter and Ellie Mundale. Doug lived life with gusto. He graduated from Augustana College and the University of Minnesota with degrees in Art and Education. He was a lifelong outdoorsman, avid fisherman, bicyclist and motorcyclist, caring teacher, talented potter, and passionate cook who loved his family. A celebration of Doug’s life will be held on Friday, June 27 at 4:00 p.m., at St Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 900 Stillwater Road, Mahtomedi, with gathering of family and friends one hour prior to service. Age 70, of White Bear Township, MN died June 16, 2008 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford, IL. He was born April 27, 1938 in Wabasha, MN. Gary was a proud US Air Force Veteran. Working as a State Farm Agent for more than 20 years, he retired in 1999. Upon retirement, Gary and Jean made their home in Bella Vista, Arkansas, and later moved back to Minnesota. Gary is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jean (Rau) Oelkers, son Jeffrey (Denise) Oelkers, Rockford, IL; daughter Kimberly (David) Bakkestuen, Forest Lake; and daughter Shannon (Ted) Bents, Osceola, WI. Grandchildren David, Jonathan, Rachel and Jacob Oelkers; Claire, Paige, Jordan and Lilah Bakkestuen; Jason, Brooke and Jenna Bents. Sister Kari Goodman, Minnetonka and brother Harold (Clarice) Oelkers, Pine Island. He was preceded in death by his parents Ore and Johanna Oelkers, granddaughter Anna Bakkestuen and nephew Russell Goodman.
