David Lynn Steven was born July 6, 1942 in Algona, son of Leo Franklin and Neva Irene (Olsen) Steven. He grew up in Algona graduating from Algona High School in 1960. David then served in the United States Navy from August, 1961 to November, 1963 being stationed in California. He later returned back to Algona where he married Charlotte Lappe and started a family.

David worked for Snap-on Tools for 29 years retiring on August 31, 2005. Due to health reasons he relocated to the Minneapolis area to be near his doctors. He was a member of the Algona First United Methodist Church and the Forest Hills United Methodist Church in Forest Lake,  being active with the Men’s group, Bible Study, and a teacher at Sunday school. He had a great sense of humor and loved being with family, especially his three children and four grandchildren. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, traveling, reading, fine dining and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes.

David L. Steven passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at his residence in Forest Lake, Minnesota at the age of 67.

He is survived by his children Machelle Stewart and her husband Tony of Ankeny, Nicole Steven of Indianola, and Patrick Steven of Urbandale; his grandchildren, Tyler, Logan, Lainee and Nevaeh. He is also survived by his mother Neva Steven of St. Paul. MN; a sister, Mariel France and her husband James of Denver, CO; a brother, James Steven and his wife Judy of Forest Lake, MN; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, a son Jeff Franzen; and a sister Karen at infancy.

Funeral Services for David will be 11:00 AM Saturday, September 5th at The First United Methodist Church in Algona, Iowa.

    We had the privilege of knowing Dave Since last September, when we moved in next door to him. We shared many laughs, good conversations and a few meals. Dave walked everyday, with bag in hand, to collect cans to donate money to support children’s camp at his church. He expressed to us his enjoyment in helping with the craft activities at the camps as well.

    Romans 13:9 You shall love your neighbor as you love yourself.
    He was a living example of that.

    We will miss him.
