Leonard P. Martin of Forest Lake, MN

Leonard Paul Martin, age 88 of Forest Lake passed away on Monday, May 29, 2006.

Leonard Paul Martin was born on April 9, 1918 in Eagle Lake, ME the ninth child of Paul and Elodie (Laferriere) Martin. His early life was spent in Eagle Lake and the Plaisted, ME area where he attended school and worked in the woods with his family.

 A veteran of World War II he enlisted in the Army on December 26, 1942 and was stationed in the Philippines (Lati Luzan).

On September 9, 1947 he married Rita M. Becker in Turton, SD. They farmed in that area for several years. Leonard also worked for the State of South Dakota. Rita passed away in 1971. In 1978, Leonard retired, sold his farm, and moved to MN where his daughter lived. On January 6, 1979 he married Ethelyn L. Gravunder Tompkins in Chippewa Falls, WI. He resided there until her death in 2004 when he again went to live with his daughter in Forest Lake, MN.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; step father; 10 sisters; 4 brothers; first wife, Rita M. Becker; and second wife, Ethlyn L. Gravunder.

He is survived by his daughter and son in-law, Ila Mae and Robert R. Rigwald, grandson, Brian L. Rigwald (Connie Pastorius); step-children, Keith Tompkins (Terry), Kathleen Brunstad, Tim Tompkins, and Helen Tompkins; 11 step-grandchildrn; 4 step-great grandchildren; sister in-law Florence Martin; brothers in-law, Clem Becker and Delmar Gravunder; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Friday, June 2, at Roberts-Eckert Funeral Home, 555 Centennial Drive SW, Forest Lake with visitation one hour prior to the service.   Interment will be at 11 AM, Saturday, June 3rd in Prairie View Cemetery in the village of Lake Hallie.
